Flood Waters

from Flood Waters EP by Jeremy Hatch

/

about

I wrote this song in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy in 2012. Amidst all the destruction I thought there must be some new beginnings. I imagined two people being thrown together by circumstance and falling in love, finally hopeful despite the hopeless prospect.

lyrics

As the flood waters ebb away
And the damage done remains
I'll make no promises to stay
And make good all the losses on my gains
You know we met in a dark, dark time
October night of wild rain
Sometimes you know I wish that I
That I never learned your name that night

We found each other in the darkness
Underneath a captive sun
The dozen hours of the longest night
Thirty million stars dying one by one
The power's out and the candle's gone
Desire was our only light
Sometimes you know I thought the day would never come
When I could make good all my wrongs with rights

Oh these hopeless days
Oh they're gonna stay
Oh these hopeless days
Arm in arm in the rain

The streets are running with rivers now
Fall leaves floating on the stream
The wind that shakes the oak branches high
And all the world taking flight without wings
You know we met in a dark, dark time
Now nothing looks quite the same
I guess I'll hang around another day or two
Hope to make good all my
departures If I stay

Oh these hopeful days
Oh they're gonna stay
Oh these hopeful days
Arm in arm in the rain

Arm in arm in the rain
