Flood Waters EP

Took a train into Santa Fe woke up an hour before dawn If I'd known what the road would bring I never would have gone But I went to see an old, old friend whose face I'd nearly forgot Strange city, watch the sun come up from an empty parking lot And the days run away They're gonna take me down Just another stray coming round, I'll go down, down, down, Down, down, down To your front door Just a dream and the smell of cedar smoke Welcome me to this old town Twenty-one degrees on a sunny day Snow in the streets all around Well if I never tried to knock on your door, what kind of man would I be? All I know is I want to see your face One more time before you set me free And the days run away They're gonna take me down Just another stray coming round, I'll go down, down, down, Down, down, down To your front door And the days run away They're gonna take me down Just another stray coming round, I'll go down, down, down, Down, down, down To your front door

Thief 03:11
My girl lives on the other side of town My girl lives on the other side of town We meet on Friday night, kiss and tell the summer light My girl lives on the other side of town Well I ain't got a dollar to my name Well I ain't got a dollar to my name Everywhere I look for work, you know the answer's just the same And I ain't got a dollar to my name I'm not gonna stand around while I see them living fine Not gonna stand around while I see them living fine Gonna take a piece for me, oh and then my girl will see I'm not gonna stand around while I see them living fine They caught me with a gun in my hand Caught me with a gun in my hand The judge he called me a thief, but all I ever got was grief Caught me with a gun in my hand Waiting for these days to pass me by Waiting for these days to pass me by My girl she don't come around, oh the heartache I've found Waiting for these days to pass me by

Flood Waters 04:16
As the flood waters ebb away And the damage done remains I'll make no promises to stay And make good all the losses on my gains You know we met in a dark, dark time October night of wild rain Sometimes you know I wish that I That I never learned your name that night We found each other in the darkness Underneath a captive sun The dozen hours of the longest night Thirty million stars dying one by one The power's out and the candle's gone Desire was our only light Sometimes you know I thought the day would never come When I could make good all my wrongs with rights Oh these hopeless days Oh they're gonna stay Oh these hopeless days Arm in arm in the rain The streets are running with rivers now Fall leaves floating on the stream The wind that shakes the oak branches high And all the world taking flight without wings You know we met in a dark, dark time Now nothing looks quite the same I guess I'll hang around another day or two Hope to make good all my departures If I stay Oh these hopeful days Oh they're gonna stay Oh these hopeful days Arm in arm in the rain Arm in arm in the rain

Oh darling why don't you stay? And why you hurrying to roll away? I want to keep you by my side another day Well if I had a hundred dollars I'd meet you at that old Greyhound I'd take that bus with you right out of town Out of town, out of town why you hurrying to roll away? I want to keep you by my side another day Well if the river ran dry tomorrow You wouldn't miss that water long You'd hide away with me til the storms Until the thunder rolled across the plains You'd do no hurrying to roll away, You'd want to stay here by my side another day Well if the sun went out tomorrow You wouldn't miss that sunshine long You'd hide away with me until the dawn Until the sun choose to rise again You'd do no hurrying to roll away, You'd want to stay here by my side another day Well if I had a hundred dollars I'd meet you at that old Greyhound I'd take that bus with you right out of town So darling why don't you stay? Why you hurrying to roll away? I want to keep you by my side another day I want to keep you by my side another day

about

This was an informal EP -- traffic sounds and all -- that I recorded at 11th Avenue Records in San Francisco earlier this year as part of a project to help raise funds for survivors of Hurricane Harvey (a series of benefit shows conceived and organized by Jane Frank). Now that that project is done, I have decided to offer them here. Each of these songs has a long history with me and I hope you enjoy them.
